White River Foundry Presents:

How To Make a Bronze From a Life-Cast Mold.

Removing the wax from the mold.

There will be various ways to remove the wax.  It's going to depend on the type of mold you use.  Here is how I do plaster gauze molds.

Wet the plaster to soften it.  Soaking is sometimes necessary.

I use a vibrating saw, the type used to cut off casts.  It will not cut skin but cuts hard materials well.  It is an attachment for my Fein detail sander.  You can also use a knife or scissors.

I split the mold with the cutter.  The mold should peel right off.  I used this saw to make this mold.  I did a one piece mold on the model and then cut it and hinged it off.  I simply repaired the cut line with plaster.  Removing the wax is going to be very similar to removing the mold from the model.

The mold is off.  I wont reuse this mold.  Some molds can be reused.  If you want multiples of the bronze you would make a good production mold of the wax.

Now on to wax working.  This is where it gets fun.
